Introducing DBT Therapy

We are now rolling out a formal Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) program at Diip.

DBT is a specialised form of therapy originally developed for people struggling with chronic suicidality and self-harm. Over time, it has become one of the more useful structured therapies for people who experience emotions intensely, get caught in recurring crisis patterns, or find that relationships and distress can become difficult to manage.

For years, we have wanted to find a way to offer DBT more formally. Many clinicians use DBT-informed therapy, or bring selected DBT skills into ordinary therapy, and that can be helpful. But a large part of DBT's value comes from its structure: regular skills training, therapy that helps clients apply those skills to real life, and a clear framework for tracking patterns and progress.

That is the gap we are trying to fill. Our DBT program combines an initial consultation, weekly skills group, individual therapy, and monthly progress review. The skills group will be conducted by Dr. Zuhaib Ali, exclusively in person at Diip House in Lahore, and will run in small cohorts covering the four core DBT skill areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Most clients will benefit from doing both the skills group and therapy, but the program can also be entered as skills training only or DBT therapy only when that is the better fit. The service page explains the options, fees, and current cohort availability.

We are especially glad to be building this with qualified DBT professionals, including Marium Nasir, who is C-DBT certified and has been central to shaping the program. This is work we have wanted to do properly, not just as a loose collection of techniques.

DBT is not only for borderline personality disorder. It may also be useful for people dealing with severe emotion dysregulation, self-harm urges, suicidal thoughts, recurring crises, or intense behavioural and interpersonal patterns. The first step is an initial consultation to decide whether DBT is the right fit.

The DBT service page has more detail on the structure, fees, and booking options. You can express interest in the program through the "I am Interested" button on that page.
