We are now moving ADHD and autism assessments into dedicated neurodevelopmental assessment programs, instead of handling them within routine psychiatric consultations.

This is not because the older model was clinically weak. In fact, our standard psychiatric assessments were often very detailed and treatment-focused. The problem was that they were built around care, not formal reporting. When clients needed documentation, we would usually provide a brief one-page diagnostic summary on request, rather than a full assessment report.

Scheduling was another issue. Psychiatric follow-ups are usually spaced one to two months apart, so an assessment that needed more than one sitting could end up stretched over several weeks. That could be frustrating for clients who needed a clear answer, a report, or a plan quickly.

The new ADHD, ASD, and combined ADHD/ASD programs are designed to solve those two problems. Detailed reporting is now part of the service, not an add-on. And because the work is shared by a coordinated multi-clinician team, we can offer more assessment slots and expect waiting times to come down significantly.

ADHD and autism diagnostic assessments will therefore no longer be handled through general psychiatric appointments. Psychiatric care remains available for treatment, medication decisions, and ongoing support, but diagnostic assessments will now be routed through the dedicated programs.
